A heme-thiolate protein (cytochrome P-450). The enzyme is involved in the biosynthesis of the triterpenoid saponin glycyrrhizin in the plant Glycyrrhiza uralensis (licorice). The enzyme from the plant Medicago truncatula can also hydroxylate beta-amyrin.
