degradation
strain MM3 can grow on up to 250 microM pyrene in culture medium. With an initial cell density of 30000000 cells/ml, nearly 70% of 50 microM pyrene is degraded after 7 days of incubation. Nearly 20% increase in degradation of pyrene is observed with the use of 0.005% Tween 80. Dihydrolipoamide acetyltransferase accumulates during microalgal degradation of pyrene. The microalgal cells immobilized in calcium alginate completely degrade 50 microM of pyrene within 10 days in nonsterile soil slurry treated with 0.005% Tween 80
