physiological function
a FAO1 mutant is unable to grow with secondary alcohols, but has very low activity toward secondary alcohols. Alkyl polyglucosides hydroxylated at the omega position in the alkyl chain of the secondary alcohol are observed in the FAO1 mutant. In the double mutant of FAO1 and hydroxy fatty acid glycosyltransferase UGTA1, accumulation of 1,13-tetradecandiol and 2,13-tetradecandiol is observed. Hydroxylation occurs first at the omega and omega-1 positions in the secondary alcohol metabolism of Starmerella bombicola, followed by primary alcohol oxidation
