AraE and XYL1 expression leads to 18fold higher xylitol production compared to control strain D452-2, AraE takes up xylose efficiently and gives the engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain DXXA high xylitol productivity, while the yeast wild-type shows an inefficient transport of xylose.
