physiological function | CKII is a constitutively active serine/threonine kinase that is implicated in the phosphorylation of a number of transcription-related proteins including RNAPII itself. Role for casein kinase II in polymerase-associated factor (PAF) complex phosphorylation and regulation of histone H2B monoubiquitylation. CKII is an important regulator of histone H2B-K123ub1, likely through its regulation of PAF-C and FACT, dynamic relationship between FACT, CKII, and PAF-C. PAF-C and CKII are direct interacting partners, while FACT may facilitate CKII recruitment to PAF-C for its subsequent phosphorylation | Saccharomyces cerevisiae |
