physiological function
Thi4 is required for pathogenicity of Verticillium dahliae. Deletion of the THI4 gene results in strains impaired in growth on thiamine-free medium that can be rescued by additional vitamin supply. Thi4 increases fungal stress tolerance such as UV-damage or oxidative stress. Thi4 is equired for fungal-induced tomato disease. A Vermicillium dahliae Thi4 deletion strain is still able to invade plants through the roots but is asymptomatic
